Track & Field to Host Jason Dennis Memorial, Travel to Louisville

Three Titans ranked in the top-20 nationally in four events

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams return home to host the Jason Dennis Memorial meet at the Shirk Center this Friday, Jan. 30. Another group of Titans is set to head to Louisville, Ky. to compete at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, hosted by the University of Louisville, Friday-Saturday, Jan. 30-31. Action inside the Shirk Center Friday night is set to commence with field events at 4 p.m. and running events to follow at 4:30 p.m.

The women's squad enters the competition as No. 23 nationally and No. 5 in the Midwest Region, according to the most recent U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Track & Field Rating Index, released Jan. 27.

There are currently three Titans ranked in the top-20 in Division III in their respective events. Reigning outdoor triple jump national champion, junior Imani Obunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park) sits first in triple jump with a season-best mark of 12.53m, as well as 17th in long jump. The junior earned first overall in triple jump at the Aurora Grand Prix on Jan. 24th with a leap of 12.01m. 

Freshman Gwendolyn Boettinger (Hickory Hills, Ill.-Stagg) took runner-up at the Aurora Grand Prix with a high jump performance of 1.62m. She currently ranks ninth in the nation in the event with a personal-best jump of 5'5". 

Senior Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) ranks 17th in the 400m with a season-best time, 48.57, at the Titan First Chance meet, Friday, Dec. 5. Lowder came up with a third place finish in his most recent 400m performance in Aurora, crossing the finish line in 48.86.

Traveling to the Shirk Center to compete at the Jason Dennis Memorial meet are Illinois College, Heartland Community College, Eureka, McKendree, and the University of Illinois Track Club. In Division III, Illinois College men's and women's teams are ranked No. 58 and 54, respectively. The Heartland Community College men's squad sits at 51 in the NJCAA rankings.
