Men’s Wrestling Concludes Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational

Zvonar leads with four wins

MT. VERNON, Iowa - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's wrestling team competed against some of the nation's best at the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational, Saturday, Jan. 17 hosted by Cornell College.

Freshman Tyson Zvonar (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) led the Titans with four wins. The 133-pounder opened his day with a 5-4 decision over Emmitt Newton of Coe College. After dropping his next bout, he earned a 22-5 technical fall over Cornell's Ethan Diaz. A key third period takedown aided Zvonar in his next match, a 5-2 decision over Isaac Gawronski of Westminster. Zvonar dropped his final bout of the event to Wartburg's Aiden Crawley.

Sophomore Ameer Alamawi (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way Central) along with freshmen Dylan McGrew (Normal, Ill.-Normal West), Silas Oberholtzer (Lake Barrington, Ill.-Barrington) and Jeremiah Austin (Jefferson City, Mo.-Capital City) each earned one win in the tournament.

IWU re-enters dual meet competition at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Duals, Friday, Jan. 23, hosted by Elmhurst University.
