Women’s bowling returns to action for the ISBPA/Kegel Collegiate Classic

Marks first competition of the new year

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- After enjoying a month and a half off, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's bowling team returns to the lanes, Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 17-18, for the ISBPA/Kegel Collegiate Classic in Addison, Ill. 

With their sights set on Stardust Lanes this weekend, the Titans will participate in five team games Saturday and will transition to 16 Baker games Sunday. The tournament is divided between the "A" squad and "B" squad with Illinois Wesleyan slated to compete in the "A" squad portion of the contest.

The Titans are coming off their first competition of the season at the first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament of the year. The all-freshman squad was led by Gigi Sanchez (Zion, Ill.-Zion-Benton) who scored an average of 119.5 over four games. Her best single game over the weekend came in the second contest with a score of 130. Sanchez stayed consistent throughout the tournament with a total pin fall of 478 including scores of 123 and 125.

In the three round Baker format, the Green and White tallied its best score in game three of the first round with a total of 127. Round one finished with an average score of 96 with round two and three finishing with averages of 75.4 and 69 respectively. 

A season ago, the Titans landed in 39th place at the ISPBA/Kegel Collegiate Classic. Then junior Kiera Henderson (Silvis, Ill.-United Township) finished in 110th place with a two-day pin fall of 853.

IWU is slated to begin the bowling festivities at 7:30 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday. The results will be posted to the IWU women's bowling page Sunday after the completion of the tournament.
