BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team hits the road Saturday, Sept. 6 to face Knox College at Jorge Prats Field in Galesburg, Ill. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
IWU returns to action after its match against Eureka College Wednesday, Sept. 4 was postponed due to inclement weather.
The Titans will put their perfect record on the line, as they enter the match 2-0-0, with both wins coming at the JR Hoe Invitational in Louisville, Ky.
IWU picked up its first win against Spalding University Friday night, August 29, 5-1. The match featured five goals from the Titans, two coming from junior forward Matthew Perchik (Glenview, Ill.-New Trier).
Sophomore Ben Lyons (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) also scooted one into the back of the net and recorded an assist. Freshman
Daniel Smazil (Downers Grove, Ill.-Downers Grove South) and
Dillon Baker (Coal Valley, Ill.-Moline) each recorded their first career goals.
In the Titan's 2-1 win over Centre College, Lyons cashed in on a one-on-one opportunity tucking in a right footer inside the post. Junior Joey Rodino (Palatine, Ill.-Fremd) delivered the game winning goal when he connected on a volley in the 19th minute.
The Knox Prairie Fire enter with a 0-0-1 record with their lone match coming against College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe North Central College. Knox and NCC finished in a 2-2 tie in the Prairie Fire's home opener on Friday, August 29.
Illinois Wesleyan has dominated the all-time series with an 11-3 record against Knox. The most recent matchup came a year ago with the Titans winning 1-nil at Neis Field. The two teams, separated by 85 miles, have played each other each year dating back to 2021.
