BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team will send three players to Kalamazoo, Mich. for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament, Friday-Monday, Sept. 26-29.
Senior Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill. - Bloomington) makes his fourth appearance at the prestigious event. In 2024, he and then-junior
Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) lost to Anderson's Martin Suarez and Pedro Alves Sette, 8-6. In the consolation ladder, Turnbull and Vigneri defeated Eli Bartek and Carson Fisher from Webster in comeback fashion, 8-4. A bye in the consolation round of 32 put the duo in the round of 16, where they drew Cole Shifferly and Tharakesh Ashokar of Wabash College and fell, 8-4.
In singles action, Turnbull was defeated by Anderson's Arturo Mendoza, 6-2, 4-6, 13-11. The Bloomington, Ill. native's tournament ended to Matthew Kordesh of Millikin, 8-6 in the consolation round of 32.
In 2023, Turnbull triumphed over Peyton Specht from Ohio Northern University, 6-2, 6-3 in the round of 128, before falling in the round of 64 to Kael Shah of Denison, 6-1, 6-1.
Junior Thad Dillow (Effingham, Ill. - Effingham) makes his ITA debut in the singles draw. He seeks his first victory of the season. Senior
Griffin Hammond (Metamora, Ill.- Metamora) also makes his ITA debut. He and Turnbull fell in the first round of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament before medically retiring from the event earlier this season.
