Four Titans Named to IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, Women’s Lacrosse Earns Academic Squad Honors

Fiandaca, Fountain, Riepe, and Seltzer represent IWU on Academic Honor Roll

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse squad reeled in a total of five academic honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, announced by the organization Wednesday, July 23. Seniors Mia Fiandaca (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North) and Avery Setzler (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington), as well as juniors Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) and Sarah Riepe (Aurora, Ill.-St. Francis) were named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll for the first time in their careers, while the team earned Academic Squad honors. 

The IWLCA Honor Roll recognizes junior, senior, and graduate student-athletes that have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher.  In total, the IWLCA honored 1,286 student-athletes from 201 institutions at the Division III level. 

In order for a program to qualify for the Academic Squad Award, the team must have posted a 3.20 GPA or better for the academic year. Illinois Wesleyan was one of 383 teams across Division I, II, III and NAIA to receive the team award. 

Fiandaca, a nursing major with a 3.57 GPA, put together her best season in her final year donning the Green and White. Named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Defensive Player of the Year, Fiandaca became the program's first All-American, as she was tabbed USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America Honorable Mention. The 2025 season saw the senior break the program's single-season caused turnovers record, as she finished with 58. Fiandaca also broke the single-season caused turnovers per game (4.83) and ground balls per game (3.92) marks. The St. Charles, Ill. native led the team in scoring with 36 goals and 38 points, and posted a team-best 47 ground balls, while finishing second on the squad with 53 draw controls. A two-time First Team All-CCIW honoree, Fiandaca nets her second IWLCA Academic Honor Roll award. 

An environmental studies major, Setzler played a strong role on both ends for the Titans, and holds a 3.78 GPA. The Bloomington, Ill. native finished third on the team with 23 goals, 12 assists, 44 ground balls, and 28 draw controls. A repeat academic honor roll honoree, Setzler recorded 35 goals and 14 caused turnovers in her final collegiate season. She finishes her career ranked 10th all-time in games played (66), and tied for 10th in career assists (40).

Fountain earns her first IWLCA academic honor after posting a 3.61 GPA as an elementary education major. The junior appeared and started in 13 games this season, racking up 19 goals and 11 assists for 30 points, 12 ground balls, six caused turnovers, and four draw controls. She net three free-position goals against Lake Forest March 12, which tied the program's single-game record. Fountain currently sits ranked tied for second in program history in woman-up goals (7), sixth in goals per game (2.02), tied for seventh in free-position goals (15), and 10th in points per game (2.56).

A two-time First Team All-CCIW honoree, Riepe adds IWLCA Academic Honor Roll honors to her list of awards, as the elementary education major carries a 3.72 grade point average. Serving as a co-captain this season, Riepe led the defense for the Green and White, as she finished with 22 caused turnovers, the third-most on the team. The Aurora, Ill. product added 38 ground balls, 22 draw controls, and 18 points composed of 11 goals and seven assists. Riepe enters her final season for the Green and White ranked fifth in career caused turnovers (66) and caused turnovers per game (1.35), and seventh in ground balls per game, averaging 2.02 per contest. 

As a team, the Titans achieved a 3.31 GPA for the 2024-25 academic year. IWU was one of four CCIW institutions to garner the team award, joined by Augustana College, Carroll University, and North Central College. Fiandaca, Setzler, Fountain, and Riepe were four of 22 players in the conference to be named to the Academic Honor Roll, as Augustana, Carroll, and North Central also had players receive the award. NCC led the league with eight honorees.
