Men’s Hoops Leads CCIW with NABC Academic Honors

Titans top CCIW with nine Honors Court selections

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball team was recognized for its success in the classroom Thursday, July 17, as the Titans continued to be leaders of College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. IWU saw a league-high nine student-athletes named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court, while Illinois Wesleyan also earned the NABC Academic Excellence Award.

Garnering the recognition for IWU were seniors Hakim Williams (Round Lake, Ill.-Round Lake), Harrison Wilmsen (St. Louis, Mo.-Priory), Marko Anderson (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South), Nick Roper (St. Louis, Mo.-MICDS), Shane Miller (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield), and Trey Bazzell (Fairbury, Ill.-Prairie Central), as well as juniors Karlo Colak (Glencoe, Ill.-New Trier), Nathan Boldt (Deer Park, Ill.-Barrington), and Nick Tingley (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way Central).

"Education is one of the NABC's five core values, and we are proud to recognize the academic accomplishments of these programs and individual student-athletes across our sport," said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. "The dedication and hard work of these athletes, along with their coaches and support staff members who prioritize academic success, deserves to be widely celebrated."

The Titans were one of five CCIW programs to be recognized as a team, joining Carthage, Elmhurst, North Central, and Wheaton. Overall, the Green and White's nine Honors Court award recipients paced the conference. Carroll saw eight named to the list, while Wheaton and Carthage tallied six recipients apiece. Elmhurst rounded out the selections with four. In all, over 2,400 players earned spots on the NABC Honors Court and nearly 400 programs received NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2024-25. 

The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize programs that completed the 2024-25 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The NABC Honors Court, meanwhile, includes junior, senior and graduate student men's basketball players who finished the 2024-25 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. The NABC's academic awards are presented annually to teams and athletes from all levels of college basketball.

The Titans posted a 24-6 overall record, which included a 12-4 CCIW mark. IWU finished second in the regular season conference race before claiming the CCIW Tournament title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Green and White advanced to the Sweet Sixteen, saw four earn All-CCIW status, two named all-region, and Josh Fridman voted the D3hoops Rookie of the Year.
