Men’s Golf Tops 38-Team Field to Win IWU Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Concluding play as host of the biggest tournament across collegiate golf this season, the fourth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team won the 38-team event Saturday, April 5. The Titans carded a final round 292 at Weibring Golf Course as the IWU 'B' team secured the victory by a seven-stroke cushion.

The Titan 'B' team was paced by three top-10 finishes. Senior Raj Sethi (Chandler, Ariz.-Arizona College Prep) placed third at two-under 141, while senior Quinn Clifford (Chicago, Ill.-Brother Rice) grabbed a share of fifth. Clifford finished one stroke off Sethi at 142. Junior Myles Lahart's (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) 36-hole total of 144 was good for a tie for ninth.

Freshman Michael O'Keefe (Chicago, Ill.-Mount Carmel) tied for seventh as the top placer on the IWU 'C' team as he finished even for the weekend.

Junior Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) was the leading finisher on IWU's 'A' team as he tied for 11th. Spizter carded a one-over 72 to finish two-over on the weekend at 143. Senior Griffin Pohl (Western Springs, Ill.-Lyons Township) tied for 18th (147).

Illinois Wesleyan's 'A' team took fourth with a total of 584 (292-292), while sixth-ranked Aurora finished second (582). St. John's edged out IWU for third at 583. UW-Eau Claire's Spencer Lynch wrapped up medalist honors at six-under par (137) to finish atop the 228-player leaderboard. Illinois Wesleyan's 'C' team placed 29th.

The Titans are back in action in Memphis, Tenn. Monday-Tuesday, April 14-15, at the Cochran Collegiate hosted by Rhodes College.
