BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team continues its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin campaign this weekend with a three-game series against Wheaton College, set for Friday and Saturday, April 18-19. The Titans will host game one at Jack Horenberger Field in Bloomington on Friday at a newly scheduled time of 2 p.m., before heading to Wheaton for a Saturday doubleheader to wrap up the series.
IWU (16-12, 8-4 CCIW) enters the matchup riding the momentum of a solid midweek victory over North Central College. The Titans overcame an early 3-0 deficit to surge past the Cardinals, 9-3, scoring nine unanswered runs. Junior Jake Pullam (Palatine, Ill.–Palatine) got the start on the mound, going four innings with three strikeouts, while junior Luke Costello (Downers Grove, Ill.–Downers Grove South) earned the win in relief, tossing five innings and striking out five. Offensively, junior Gage Wolfe (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) led the charge, going 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. The Titans racked up 12 hits and seven RBIs in the victory.
The Titans and Thunder (12-17, 5-5 CCIW) share a storied rivalry that dates back to 1989, having played over 100 times. Illinois Wesleyan holds a dominant all-time series lead, 74-29, and has won four of the last five meetings. Most recently, IWU downed Wheaton 9-1 on April 17, 2024, behind a standout performance from then-junior Justin Gadomski (Schaumburg, Ill.-Schaumburg), who plated three runs.
Statistically, the Titans continue to lead the CCIW in team batting average, sitting atop the leaderboard at an impressive .341. Carthage (.322) and Carroll (.304) round out the top three.
Individually, senior Cade Tomhave (Pittsfield, Ill.-Pittsfield) remains a force at the plate, leading the conference with a .430 batting average and a .543 on-base percentage. Gadomski tops the CCIW in both hits (51) and doubles (20), while Wolfe leads the league in sacrifice bunts with six. On the mound, Pullam holds the top spot in fewest doubles allowed, giving up just one all season.
