Women’s Lacrosse Hosts Cardinals for CCIW Clash

Titans to take on NCC at 4 p.m. inside Tucci Stadium

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Beginning a stretch of three straight home games to close out the regular season, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team hosts North Central College for a midweek College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin contest Wednesday, April 16. The Titans (6-7, 1-1 CCIW) will take on the Cardinals (8-3, 1-0 CCIW) at 4 p.m. inside Tucci Stadium. 

Illinois Wesleyan enters the bout off a 17-6 loss at Carroll University Saturday, April 12. The Titan offense was powered by three points, all via goals, from senior Mia Fiandaca (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North). Fiandaca also led the team in caused turnovers and ground balls, totaling six and four, respectively. Senior Lizzie Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Saint Viator) accrued 16 saves in goal.

Senior Avery Setzler (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) leads the team in points with 29. Her 19 goals and 10 assists each rank second on the squad. Junior Sadie Newton (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) is second with 26 points, followed by freshman Maddie Gibson (Fenton, Mo.-Rockwood Summit) and Fiandaca with 25 points apiece is good for third. Fiandaca's 25 goals are a team-high, while Newton follows Setzler with 18 goals to round out the top three. Junior Anelise DiGiovanni (Lockport, Ill.-Lockport Township) holds the team-high in assists with 11. Junior Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) and Gibson are tied for third with nine helpers each. 

At the draw, Newton paces the team with 49 draw controls. Fiandaca is second with 32, while Setzler is third with 28. The same trio also leads the team in ground balls, but Fiandaca sits at the top with 38. Setzler and Newton trail with 37 and 34, respectively. 

As a team, IWU ranks 17th nationally in caused turnovers per game with an average of 13.77. Fiandaca leads the squad with 43 forced miscues, followed by Newton's 21, and 15 from freshman Carly Bajusz (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville North)

In goal, Rymarcsuk leads the team with 122 saves in 672:15 minutes between the posts. The senior enters Wednesday with a 6-7 record, and owns a .475 save percentage on the season.

The Green and White will match up with North Central for the 12th time in program history, with the Titans walking away victorious in 10 of the 11 contests. Illinois Wesleyan took the most recent meeting, 12-7, April 24, 2024. The game saw then-senior Britney Maldonado break the CCIW single-season assists record, as she finished with 11 points on four goals and seven assists. Rymarcsuk made nine saves en route to the win. NCC enters the game off an 8-6 win over CCIW foe Elmhurst University Saturday, April 12.
