Women’s Lacrosse Sees Win Streak Snapped by UWL

Titans head to Maryland for spring break, March 9-12

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team saw its win streak halted at three as the Titans fell to University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, 16-4, Thursday afternoon, March 6, at Tucci Stadium. IWU dips to 3-2 with the loss, while UWL jumps to 1-2.

Senior Mia Fiandaca (St Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North) provided the offense, scoring three goals to finish with three points. The St. Charles, Ill. native also paced the team with five draw controls, while freshman Carly Bajusz (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville North) tallied one goal and an assist.

Freshman Brooke Ayres (Sun Prairie, Wis.-Sun Prairie East) caused a team-high five turnovers, with Fiandaca finishing with four CTs and a team-best five ground balls. Senior Lizzie Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Saint Viator) collected nine saves.

The Eagles scored the first nine goals of the game, before the Titans cracked the scoreboard on a Fiandaca goal. Bajusz found Fiandaca with a pass and the senior used a spin to distance from her defender en route to a goal.

Trailing 12-1 out of halftime, Fiandaca scored the first goal of the third quarter with 11:32 on the clock. UWL followed with three straight as IWU trailed, 15-2, into the final period.

The Green and White outscored the Eagles, 2-1, over the final 15 minutes as Fiandaca completed a hat trick and Bajusz buried a shot as Illinois Wesleyan fell, 16-4.

The Titans now embark on their spring break trip, March 9-12, as IWU heads to Maryland for games against McDaniel College and St. Mary's College of Maryland. Illinois Wesleyan kicks off the week with a bout against McDaniel Sunday, March 9, at 12 p.m. ET.
