Women’s Lacrosse Hosts Wooster for Saturday Matinee

Titans to honor Britney Maldonado pregame

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team is set to play its first game inside Tucci Stadium since March 2, as the Titans (5-5) finally concluded their five-game road trip. IWU hosts College of Wooster for an 11 a.m. contest Saturday, March 29.

After a stellar senior season was capped off by being named the NCAA Division III Statistical Champion with an average of 4.53 assists per game, the Titans will celebrate 2024 graduate Britney Maldonado pregame. 

Illinois Wesleyan enters the weekend off an 18-3 loss at DePauw University Wednesday night, March 26. Junior Sadie Newton (Bloomington, Ill.- Normal Community) led the team with four draw controls to go along with two caused turnovers, while three different Titans scored in the contest. Senior Lizzie Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Saint Viator) made 13 saves in 45 minutes of work in between the pipes.

Senior Avery Setzler (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) leads the team in points entering Saturday's contest, having recorded 23 on a team-high 17 goals as well as six assists. Newton closely follows with 22 points, and ranks first on the team with eight assists, and is third in goals with 14. Junior Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) rounds out the top-three scorers with 17 points composed of 11 goals and six assists. Senior Mia Fiandaca (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North) brings in the second-most goals on the team, having scored 15. The duo of junior Anelise DiGiovanni (Lockport, Ill.-Lockport Township) and freshman Maddie Gibson (Fenton, Mo.-Rockwood Summit) have each totaled seven assists, tied for second-most on the team.

At the draw, Newton holds a team-leading 43 draw controls, followed by Fiandaca's 25, and Setzler with 24. The same three also lead the team in ground balls, just in a different order. Fiandaca sits at the top with 30, while Setzler closely trails with 29, and Newton has scooped up 27 ground balls on the season. 

Fiandaca also leads the team in caused turnovers with 31. Newton's 15 are good for second-best, and freshman Carly Bajusz (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville North) has caused 13 miscues.

Having logged 507:15 minutes in goal for the Green and White, Rymarcsuk leads the team with 84 saves on a .469 save percentage. Freshman Marli Brown (Kansas City, Mo.-Notre Dame de Sion) has made nine saves with a .563 save percentage in 92:45 minutes between the iron.
