Men’s Hoops Sees Four Earn CSC Academic All-District Status

Roper advances to CSC Academic All-America ballot

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -
The Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball team picked up four spots on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team announced Tuesday, March 25. Seniors Trey Bazzell (Fairbury, Ill.-Prairie Central) and Nick Roper (St. Louis, Mo.-MICDS), as well as junior Karlo Colak (Glencoe, Ill.-New Trier) and sophomore Mason Funk (Normal, Ill.-University High) received the honor. The Titans' four selections tied with Wheaton for the most in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.


Roper, who earned the accolade for the first time in his career, will advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Bazzell garnered the distinction for the third straight year, while Colak and Funk are first-time awardees.

A unanimous First Team All-CCIW pick, Roper also reeled in D3hoops.com All-Region 8. He started all 30 games and averaged a team-leading 15.3 points per game alongside 5.6 rebounds per contest. He tallied 56 assists, 32 steals, and seven blocks. Roper shot 48.1 percent from the field for the season, 34.1 percent from three-point range, and 72.9 percent at the free throw line. He holds a 3.57 grade point average as a finance major.

Bazzell, a sharpshooter from beyond the arc, played in all 30 games for the Green and White. He connected on 51 three-pointers, averaging 5.3 points per game. A finance major with a 3.93 GPA, Bazzell added 30 rebounds, 21 assists, 10 steals, and five blocks.

Colak emerged as go-to off the bench for the Titans during the 2024-25 season, playing in all 30 games. The Glencoe, Ill. native put up 6.8 points per game and 2.7 rebounds per contest. Colak hit the game-winning shot against St. John's in the NCAA Tournament to punch the Titans' ticket to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2022. He carries a 3.75 GPA while majoring in environmental studies.

One of four players to start every game this season, Funk reeled in CSC Academic All-District honors in his first year eligible for the award. He averaged 9.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. A pre-med major, Funk owns a 3.93 grade point average.
