BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball's freshman point guard Josh Fridman (Northbrook, Ill.-Glenbrook North) was recognized as the D3hoops.com National Rookie of the Year as the organization announced its postseason honors and All-America teams. Fridman is the first Titan to earn the honor since D3hoops began awarding it in 2008.
Fridman was voted the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Newcomer of the Year as well as the D3hoops Region 8 Rookie of the Year.
In his first season donning the Green and White, Fridman worked his way into the lineup as the team's starting point guard. Fridman averaged 9.2 points per game and dished out 76 assists against just 41 turnovers. He shot 40.4 percent from the field and 37.7 percent from three-point range. Fridman led the team with a free throw percentage of 88.0. He scored a career-high 24 points in IWU's CCIW Tournament semifinal win over Augustana, Feb. 28, aided by a career-high six three-pointers.
IWU won the CCIW Tournament Championship and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. The Titans finished the year with a 24-6 record and were ranked in the top-25 consistently throughout the season.
