NAPERVILLE, Ill. - For the first time this season and the third time in his career, Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball senior guard Nick Roper (St. Louis, Mo.-MICDS) was tabbed the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Player of the Week Monday, Feb. 3.
Roper turned in another outstanding week for Illinois Wesleyan, leading the Titans to a pair of wins, Jan. 29-Feb. 1, as IWU extended its record to 18-2 overall and 10-1 in the CCIW. Roper averaged 21 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game over the course of a week that featured wins against Carroll and Elmhurst. He was incredibly efficient from the field, shooting 68.4 percent (13-of-19) overall and posting a 5-of-7 showing from beyond the arc (71.4 percent).
Roper began the week with 27 points, two off his career-high, in an overtime win over Carroll. He added seven rebounds and a pair of steals in the game. He scored six of IWU's 12 points in overtime, including icing the game with free throws with eight seconds to play. The 81-78 win marked the third overtime victory of the month for the Titans.
The St. Louis, Mo. native finished out the week with 15 points, four rebounds, and a steal in a 77-46 blowout win over Elmhurst. He played just 23 minutes in the lopsided win, but turned in the highlight of the day with a baseline drive and slam.
Roper and IWU travel to Naperville, Ill. this Wednesday, Feb. 5, for a battle with North Central College. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
