Women’s Lacrosse Treks to Illinois Tech

Titans face Scarlet Hawks Wednesday, Feb. 26

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After opening the 2025 season at Aurora University Saturday, Feb. 22, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team heads to Illinois Institute of Technology for a Wednesday night contest, Feb. 26. Action is set to begin at 5 p.m. in Chicago, Ill., at Stuart Field.

IWU (0-1) fell to Aurora (1-0) 10-7, with senior Avery Setzler (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) leading the Green and White offense. Setzler notched a hat trick, and added an assist to total four points in the season opener. Junior Sadie Newton (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) led the team with seven draw controls, while senior Mia Fiandaca (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North) posted a team-high four caused turnovers. Senior Lizzie Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Saint Viator) registered all 60 minutes in goal, recording 10 saves. 

Behind Setzler's three goals, Fiandaca posted two to help lead the Titan offense. Newton added one, and freshman Maddie Gibson (Fenton, Mo.-Rockwood Summit) scored her first career goal in the contest. Setzler, Newton, and juniors Anelise DiGiovanni (Lockport, Ill.-Lockport Township) and Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) all recorded an assist to open the season. 

Illinois Wesleyan will meet Illinois Tech (0-2) for the third time, with previous meetings occurring in 2015 and 2016. The Titans are 2-0 against the Scarlet Hawks, and took the most recent matchup 13-5. Now-head coach Abby Kushina scored two goals to go along with three ground balls in the win. IIT enters the contest off a 20-2 loss to Southwestern College Saturday, Feb. 22.
