NACDA Release

CLEVELAND, Ohio -
Illinois Wesleyan University senior women's basketball standout Lauren Huber (Lombard, Ill.-Glenbard East) was named a nominee for the inaugural Allstate National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Good Works Winter Team the organization announced Thursday morning, Feb. 20. Huber is one of few Division III student-athletes named to the 193-person list, which can be found here.

The Allstate NACDA Good Works Team will be announced in early March and will comprise 20 student-athletes who make outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism, civic involvement and community engagement. These individuals embody the true spirit of teamwork and giving back through commendable acts of philanthropy. One exemplary student-athlete will later be awarded captain of the Allstate NACDA Good Works Team (Winter).

The goal of this program, which is in its first year, is to provide recognition for these future community leaders, their teams, academic institutions, and the communities they support.

Huber has been a standout on the basketball court over the course of her career, but has been even more impactful in the community. A three-time All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selection, Huber has reeled in All-America honors from D3hoops and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and is a multiple all-region honoree. She is a seven-time CCIW Player of the Week winner and was named a finalist for the prestigious Josten's Trophy Award in 2024.

Off the court, Huber has excelled academically as a biology major at IWU. A three-time Academic All-CCIW honoree, she was also recognized as College Sports Communicators Academic All-America in 2024. Additionally, Huber is a trained and licensed Emergency Medical Technician, and has held the position of General Biology Lab Preparator for Dr. Libby Haywood. She has also served as an athletic training student assistant, where she helped provide treatment to IWU student-athletes.

Huber is one of our busiest student-athletes, but somehow excels in all aspects of academics, athletics, and service. She has organized, led, and participated in many community service activities including: serving as a youth basketball camp counselor, serving on our Student Athlete Advisory Committee, assuming the role of Director of Student-Athlete Development for SAAC, being a member of the Pre Healthy Club Fellowship of Christian Athlete, while also spending her time as a Night to Shine Volunteer, Trick or Treat Canned Food Drive leader, Timber Lake 5K Set Up Volunteer, fundraising for St. Jude's, participating in the Impact Life Blood Drive, and a leader on the Pink Zone Decorating Committee. She has also volunteered with UNICEF, Salvation Army, Sugar Creek, the Tim Tebow Foundation, Home Sweet Home Ministry, Almost Home Kids, UKANDU, and Feed My Starving Children among others.

She has held leadership positions within our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and in other areas on campus. She was the single student representative from our entire campus chosen to speak at the benefactors dinner earlier this year. She is the Director of Student-Athlete Development for our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), where she works to create leadership development and community service opportunities for our entire student-athlete body. She is also an active member of Beta Beta Beta and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, where she has led various initiatives.

A legacy of college sports
Announced in December, the Allstate NACDA Good Works Team builds on the legacy of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, which has celebrated college football players' good work off the field since 1992. Now, 60 more student-athletes across all sports and all divisions will be honored annually – three groups of 20 representing the fall, winter and spring collegiate athletics seasons.

"Athletes in sports that don't always make the headlines demonstrate the same dedication to service and leadership as any other competitor," said Elizabeth Brady, Allstate's chief marketing, customer and communications officer. "The overwhelmingly positive response to our first-ever Allstate NACDA Good Works Team shows how much this spotlight and support matters. We're honored to share the stories of these inspiring student-athletes."
