Five Titans Finish with Event Wins in Meet Against Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swim and dive teams took a trip to Franklin, Ind. to compete against the Grizzlies of Franklin College. Both IWU teams finished with a loss, Saturday, Feb. 1, with the Grizzlies taking a 166-69 win on the men's side and 167-94 score on the women's side. 

The Titans concluded with seven crowns during the meet, with senior Carter Dilger (Sellersburg, Ind.-Jeffersonville) and freshman Jacob Nacional (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Bolingbrook) claiming two first-place finishes apiece. Dilger struck gold in both the 100-yard backstroke (55.37) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:00.63). The Sellersburg, Ind. native snagged a new season-best in the 100-yard backstroke, beating his last time by .35 seconds, set back in November. Nacional also came away with two crowns in the 100-yard butterfly clocking a 55.20, and the 200-yard individual medley touching the wall at 2:05.72. The freshman set new personal-bests in both events.

Freshman Tate Thomas (Joliet, Ill.-Joliet West) rounded out the men's first-place finishes, competing in the 1000-yard freestyle. Thomas timed in at 10:26.51, shaving almost 25 seconds off his previous personal-best, set against Rose-Hulman, Jan. 11. 

Carter, Nacional, and Thomas, along with freshman Ben Huk (Des Plaines, Ill.-Maine West) picked up a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.14.

For the women, junior Natalie Porter (Danville, Ill.-Danville) won the 1000-yard freestyle clocking in at 11:09.01. Sophomore Sam Borre (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) found her way to a crown in the women's 200-yard backstroke as she finished in 2:16.70, with a two-second cushion over the rest of the field.

Borre teamed up with senior Emily Marks (Cary, Ill.-Cary), junior Kayleigh Kuschewski (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia), and freshman Julia Jozwiak (McHenry, Ill.-Wauconda) to compete in the 200-yard medley relay. The team took second overall finishing with a time of 2:00.40.

The Titans will take a two week break before traveling to Kenosha, Wis. for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Swim and Dive Championships, Feb. 19-22.
