CCIW Release

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - For the first time this season, the sixth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team swept the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Player of the Week honors, announced by the organization Monday, Nov. 3. Seniors Taylor French (Romeoville, Ill.-Plainfield East) and Kannyn Boyd (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.-Mt. Pleasant) were named the hitter and defensive player of the week, respectively, while junior Sophia Feeney (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) reeled in setter of the week honors. The honors come after an impressive 3-0 week for IWU, including two top-five wins over the weekend and clinching the CCIW Regular Season Championship outright, marking the first time the Titans have won back-to-back championships.

It is only the second time since the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin expanded the weekly award to three categories prior to the 2023 season that a team has swept the weekly awards. The same trio completed the sweep for the first time in conference history, as French, Feeney, and Boyd all earned the weekly accolades Oct. 7, 2024.

The trio of Titans make it 13 weekly honors for the Green and White this season. French earns the fourth accolade of the season (Sept. 8, Sept. 12, and Oct. 13), and the 13th of her storied career, as it marks the sixth hitter of the week honor for IWU this season. Feeney earns the second setter of the week honor of her junior campaign, having previously earned it Oct. 13, and collects it for the third time in her career. Boyd, having already earned defensive honors Sept. 2, makes it five top defensive honors for Illinois Wesleyan this season, and earns the award for the fourth time in her career. The three Titans add to the list of Alex Bardouniotis (hitter, Oct. 6 and Oct. 27), Hannah Tellor (defensive, Oct. 20), Eleanor Palmer (defensive, Oct. 6), and Alysa Lawton (defensive, Sept. 8).

French led the Illinois Wesleyan offense during the three matches. For the week, French recorded 51 kills, an impressive average of 4.64 per set, but the biggest stat line came Wednesday night, Oct. 29, when she became the program's all-time kills leader, surpassing now-assistant coach Tyler White (nee Brown) with the 1778th kill of her career. French also notched 35 digs, an average of 3.18 per set, seven aces, averaging 0.64 per set, four blocks, and an assist.

The Romeoville, Ill. native opened the week with her record-breaking performance in a four-set win over CCIW foe Carroll University Wednesday night, as she finished with a 13-kill, 13-dig double-double performance, along with two blocks and an ace. French followed with a dominant performance against No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, leading the Green and White to a sweep Friday night, Oct. 31. The senior posted 17 kills on a monstrous .452 attack percentage, as she committed just three attack errors on 31 swings, 15 digs, three aces, and a pair of blocks to secure sweep in an ecstatic Shirk Center. French finished the week with 21 kills, seven digs, three aces, and an assist in a four-set win over No. 5 Juniata College Saturday, Nov. 1, stunning the three-time defending national champions to complete a sensational Senior Day for the Titans. The weekend efforts landed French IWU Tournament III All-Tournament Team honors.

Feeney orchestrated the Illinois Wesleyan offense to an impressive 3-0 week, as she led the team with 65 assists. She was one-half of the setter duo that orchestrated an IWU offense that hit .275 on the week. Feeney averaged an impressive 5.91 assists per set in the 6-2 rotation, along with 21 digs, nine aces, averaging 0.82 per set, and two kills.

The junior opened the week with 16 assists, seven digs and matched her career high of four aces in a four set win over Carroll Wednesday night, as the Titans hit .252 for the contest. Rounding out the week with a victory over Juniata Saturday afternoon, Feeney finished with 25 assists, seven digs, two kills, and an ace, as IWU hit a whopping .293 in the match.

Leading the defense, Boyd recorded 55 digs, an impressive average of five per set, 14 assists, an average of 1.27 per set, and two aces, as IWU's defense limited its opponents to a .198 attack percentage. Boyd began her week with 17 digs, three assists, and an ace in the contest against CU. The senior followed with a stellar defensive effort against UWO Friday night, limiting the visitors to a .167 attack percentage behind 15 digs and five aces.
