The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team received five selections to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team released Tuesday, Nov. 25. Senior co-captain Jerry Smazil (Downers Grove, Ill.-Downers Grove) and senior goalkeeper Sam Kedzior (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove) were selected to their third team in as many years. Junior forward Ryder Coleman (Bannockburn Ill,-Deerfield) was honored for the second year in-a-row as senior defenseman Kalabi Kamau (Alpharetta, Ga.-Marist School) and junior Matthew Perchik (Glenview, Ill.-New Trier) recorded the first Academic All-District honors of their respective careers.

Smazil, Kedzior, and Coleman advance to the Academic All-America ballot. CSC will unveil this year's Academic All-America team Dec. 10.

The CSC Academic All-District Team recognizes student-athletes for excellence both in the classroom and on the field. In order to qualify for the prestigious honor, student-athletes must carry a minimum 3.50 grade point average and appear in at least 90 percent of the team's matches or start in 66 percent of them.

Smazil earned his third CSC Academic All-District award behind a 3.85 GPA after starting 16 matches for the Titans as a stout defender. The finance major tallied an assist on the game-winning goal in the regular season match against North Park. Smazil was a part of the 2023 and 2025 NCAA Tournament runs leading the Titans to over 30 wins in his four years.

One of the best goalkeepers in Illinois Wesleyan history, Kedzior added another honor to his name, collecting his third CSC Academic All-District selection. The secondary education major supported a 3.94 GPA, starting all but one match. On the year, Kedzior recorded a program-record 13 wins and 87 saves to the tune of a .98 goals against average. Kedzior became the program's all-time saves (282) and wins leader (31).

Coleman, the lone First Team College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin member for the Titans, reeled in his second Academic All-District honor. The finance major started all 20 matches and holds a 3.67 GPA. Coleman led the Green and White in points for the second year in a row (20), tying a career-best seven goals and six assists.

Two-time Academic All-CCIW awardee, Kamau, earned the first CSC Academic All-District honor of his career. Starting all 20 matches for IWU, the business administration major holds a 3.78 grade point average. Kamau was a part of a defense that held opponents to one goal or fewer in 17 matches.

Perchik wraps up the honorees accumulating 15 starts and maintaining a team-best 3.96 GPA. The finance major recorded a career-year totaling 14 points off of five goals and four assists. He cashed in two game-winning goals, one in the postseason against North Central and the other coming against Elmhurst on Senior Day.

IWU saw its season come to a close in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament falling to Macalester, 2-1. The Green and White posted a program best 13 wins surpassing the 1995 team, and won the CCIW Tournament Championship for the second time in three years.
