CCIW Release

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The eighth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team landed two College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Player of the Week honors, as sophomore Alex Bardouniotis (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North) was named the hitter of the week, while junior Eleanor Palmer (Chicago, Ill.-DePaul College Prep) earned defensive honors, announced by the league Monday, Oct. 6. It marks the first time in each of their careers that they have garnered a weekly accolade.

The pair joins a list of Titans to receive the honor this season, as Taylor French has earned the offensive honor twice (Sept. 8 and Sept. 22), while Kannyn Boyd (Sept. 2) and Alysa Lawton (Sept. 8) have represented the Green and White defensively.

Bardouniotis powered the hot-hitting Illinois Wesleyan offense to a 1-0 week, securing a sweep over North Park University Wednesday night, Oct. 1. The match saw Bardouniotis post nine kills on a whopping .533 attack percentage, as she committed just one hitting error on 15 swings. The sophomore also added 11 digs, two aces, and a block in the three-set victory.

Palmer led the dominant Titan defense in the sweep. Contributing heavily on both sides of the game, Palmer notched seven kills on an impressive .667 attack percentage, as the Green and White hit .385 as a crew, while the junior also tallied a team-high four blocks en route to limiting the Vikings to a .115 showing. Making a statement in her hometown, Palmer added two digs to her stat line, as she finished with nine points.

The two helped boost IWU's record to 14-1, and 3-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. The Titans return to action Wednesday night, Oct. 8, heading to Carthage College for a key CCIW contest. Action is set to begin at 7 p.m. inside Tarble Arena.
