CCIW Release
NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team landed three on the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin All-Conference Teams, announced by the league office Friday, Oct. 31. Sophomore Liza Wiley (Bloomington, Ind.-Home School) earned first team accolades, while senior Bree Cordray (Bloomington, Ill.-University High) and junior Ava Mapes (Golden, Colo.-Lakewood) collected second team honors.Â
IWU finished conference play 4-3-1 as it earned hosting rights as the fourth-seed in the league tournament. The Titans record is the best since their CCIW regular season and tournament-winning season in 2022.Â
Wiley, a second team selection a year ago, made the jump to the first team after a spectacular sophomore campaign. She started all eight league games at midfielder for the Titans and recorded six points. The fourth multi-score game of her career, Wiley recorded a brace against Augustana, Oct. 15. She shared the ball efficiently as well, adding two helpers in conference play, one in a win against Elmhurst, Oct. 18, and one in a narrow loss to eventual league champion North Central, Oct. 22.Â
Mapes earned the first All-CCIW distinction of her career following her breakout junior season, landing on the second team. Mapes had not scored a conference goal until this season, finding the back of the net four times in her seven league games. The Golden, Colo. native added three assists on the season, which ranks fourth in the league. Mapes' 11 points lead the team, as she is the primary contributor to the fourth highest-scoring offense in the CCIW.Â
A four-year player for the Green and White, Cordray captained the Titans this season, leading IWU to its best league record since 2022 and earning herself All-CCIW Second Team honors. Cordray started seven-of-eight league games as a defender. She was the head of the Illinois Wesleyan defense that allowed seven goals in her seven games and was a key part of four Titan shutouts as an aggressive lockdown defender.
Sophomore goalkeeper Vanessa Gray (Burlington, Ontario, Canada-Dr. Frank J. Hayden) was Illinois Wesleyan's RESPECT award honoree.Â
No. 4 IWU plays host to No. 5 Wheaton Saturday, Nov. 1 in the CCIW Tournament Quarterfinals. Kickoff at Neis Field is set for 12 p.m.
