BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Following the Illinois Wesleyan University senior day celebration, the men's and women's swim and dive teams competed against Illinois Institute of Technology, and College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Carthage College Saturday, Jan. 18. The men's swimming team fell to both the Firebirds, 241-35, and the Scarlet Hawks, 220-36. The women, however, went 1-1 on the day with a 144-105 win over IIT, but ultimately fell to CC 185-100.

Ahead of the competition, IWU celebrated its three seniors, Emily Marks (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove), Colin McKibben (Green Oaks, Ill.-Libertyville), and Alexa Starkey (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community West) for their hard work and dedication to the team over the years.

Marks started the meet teaming up with junior Kayleigh Kuschewski (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia), sophomore Sam Borre (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant), and freshman Isabella Cano (River Grove, Ill.-East Leyden) in the 200-yard medley relay to place second with a time of 1:56.78.

Junior Natalie Porter (Danville, Ill.-Danville) was the Titans' top performer of the day placing first in both of her events. Porter snagged the No. 1 spot in the 1000-yard freestyle clocking a time of 10:53.63, about 20 seconds shy of the pool record at IWU while also taking first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:24.06. Kuschewski picked up an individual win as well, in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:15.74, and had a runner-up mark in the 100-yard breast (1:13.46).

Marks and Borre also claimed top-three placings in each of their individual events. Marks placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (26.58) and the 100-yard freestyle (57.57) while Borre was the runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.96) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.81) while also snagging a third place spot in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:44.84).

Senior Carter Dilger (Sellersburg, Ind.-Jeffersonville) clinched a third-place spot in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:02.07 and had a fifth-place showing in the 100-yard freestyle (50.86), marking the best time on the men's side in the event this season. Freshman Jacob Nacional (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Bolingbrook) slotted in at third place in the 500-yard freestyle clocking a 5:05.59, lowering his best time of the season by four seconds. McKibben earned fifth place in the 1000-yard freestyle, tagging the wall at 11:18.29 to improve his season-best time by almost seven seconds.
