Six Titans Take Crowns Against Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - After a month's rest from competition, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swim and dive team competed against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Saturday, Jan. 11 inside Rose-Hulman Natatorium. Both teams recorded a loss to the Fightin' Engineers. 

For the women, junior Kayleigh Kuschewski (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia) took home a crown in the women's 200-yard breaststroke, timing in at 2:40.85. The Batavia, Ill. native finished third in the 100-yard backstroke finishing with a time of 1:04.43. Junior Natalie Porter (Danville, Ill.-Danville) took home gold for the Titans in the 500-yard freestyle clocking a 5:24.40. Porter, in addition to her first place, took two runner-up's in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.20) and the 100-yard freestyle (59.19). Freshman Isabella Cano (River Grove, Ill.-East Leyden) claimed a win in the women's 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.68.

The women took a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with freshmen Cano, and Julia Jozwiak (McHenry, Ill.-Wauconda) alongside junior Julianna Boyle (Carol Stream, Ill.-Glenbard North), and senior Alexa Starkey (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) timing in with a 1:51.05 inching out the second place team by .73 . The women also snagged a second place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with Kuschewski, and Cano, Jozwiak and freshman Caroline Stenger (Westlake, Ohio-Westlake). 

On the men's side, freshman Tate Thomas (Joliet, Ill.-Joliet West) nabbed a first place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a 10:40.88. Senior Carter Dilger (Sellersburg, Ind.-Jeffersonville) took the crown in the 100-yard fly with a time of 54.78. Freshmen Jacob Nacional (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Bolingbrook) and Ben Huk (Des Plaines, Ill.-Maine West) both saw gold medals in the 500-yard freestyle (5:12.60) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.13), respectively. 

Dilger and fellow senior Colin McKibben (Green Oak, Ill.-Libertyville) teamed up with Huk and Nacional in the 200-yard freestyle relay to finish first overall (1:35.04).

The Titans are back to Fort Natatorium Friday, Jan. 17 for a Tri between IWU, Millikin, and Illinois College. The meet is set to start at 6 p.m.
