Lawton Tabbed as CCIW Defensive Player of the Week

Second straight Titan to earn weekly award

Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball earned its second straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Defensive Player of the Week award Monday, Sept. 16, this time nabbed by freshman libero Alysa Lawton (Elmhurst, Ill.-IC Catholic Prep). It marks the first award of her young career.


Lawton was a crucial part of the Titan defense for the week of Sept. 9-14 that saw the Green and White battle two ranked opponents and one receiving votes. The freshman libero finished the week with 79 digs, an incredible average of 6.08 per set, nine assists, and two aces in 13 sets of action. 

Lawton started the week with a 27-dig performance at Coe College, who is receiving votes in the national poll, Friday afternoon, Sept. 13. The freshman followed the performance with her best one of the week, recording a career-high 31 digs, along with eight assists and an ace in the win over Edgewood Friday night. Lawton finished the week by leading the Titan defense to a thrilling five-set victory at No. 21 Cornell College Saturday, Sept. 14, recording 21 digs, along with one assist and an ace. 

Lawton and the Titans return to action Wednesday night, Sept. 18, for their CCIW opener. IWU hosts Wheaton College for a 7 p.m. match inside Shirk Center.
