LEXINGTON, Ky. - For the second straight season, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award, announced by the organization Wednesday, July 17. It marks the fourth time in program history the Titans have earned the accolade.
The award, which began in 1992, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams (men/women, boys/girls, indoor/beach) that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average. Seven institutions from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin achieved the award.
The Titans put together a strong year in the classroom, as seniors
Lily Summers (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield North) and
Taylor Babec (Joliet, Ill.-Plainfield Central) represented the Green and White on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team. The 2023 squad saw a total of eight members earn Academic All-CCIW honors.
Illinois Wesleyan is set to open its 2024 season Friday, Aug. 30 against Mount St. Joseph University at the Wittenberg Fall Classic.
