Four Titans Tab CSC All-District Honors

Perona, Cyrus, Davidsmeier, and Willard all receive recognition

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Seniors Louis Perona (Chicago, Ill.-Lane Tech) and Jacob Cyrus (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South), along with sophomores Will Davidsmeier (Virginia, Ill.-Beardstown) and Tommy Willard (Downers Grove, Ill.-Downers Grove South) of the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team were announced as College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honorees Tuesday, June 4. 

In order to be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and maintain a grade point average of 3.50 or better, while appearing in 90 percent or starting 67 percent of a team's competitions.

Perona, a finance and economics double major, hit .368 on the season in his final year for the Green and White. He cranked out 50 hits, with 11 doubles, two triples, and three home runs. Perona ranked second on the team with 74 total bases, while walking 28 times and holding a .494 on-base percentage. Starting all 39 games for the Titans, he posted 16 multi-hit games and was named a Second Team All-CCIW honoree with a Hitter of the Week recognition as well.

Cyrus split time between the field and the mound for the Green and White. He hit .279 with 36 hits, eight doubles, and two homers. Cyrus finished the season with 19 RBIs and eight walks. On the bump, he posted a 1-3 record over nine appearances and recorded 43 strikeouts over 32.0 innings of work. 

Davidsmeier, an education major, posed as one of the Titans' three starting pitchers this season. Posting a team-high, and ranking 12th nationally with an ERA of 1.82, he owned a 6-1 record over 12 appearances. Davidsmeier struck out 42 in 39.2 innings on the bump, while also nabbing an All-CCIW Second Team spot. 

An accounting major, Willard started 28 games in the infield for IWU. He accrued a .351 batting average with 34 hits, two doubles, and one home run. He drove in 21, scored 14 runs, and recorded eight multi-hit efforts. A versatile defender, Willard played both third and second base for the Titans throughout the season.

Willard and Perona were selected to move forward to the ballot for Academic All-America honors. CSC will release its Academic All-America baseball teams Tuesday, July 2.
