Six Titans Garner All-CCIW Honors

Micheal Passarelli named IWU’s RESPECT Award recipient

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - With the 20-game College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin slate complete for the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team, the conference office announced its annual All-CCIW teams, Tuesday, May 7 that saw six Titans welcome a nod. Junior Justin Gadomski (Schaumburg, Ill.-Schaumburg) and sophomore Cole Shamhart (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) hauled in first team honors, while senior Louis Perona (Chicago, Ill.-Lane Tech), junior Tyler Woltman (Wheaton, Ill.-Wheaton North), sophomore Will Davidsmeier (Virginia, Ill.-Beardstown), and freshman John Philip Ferraro (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) were awarded second team honors. Senior Michael Passarelli (Chicago, Ill.-Da La Salle) was named IWU's RESPECT Award winner. 

Shamhart was one of the Titans key pitchers, keeping a perfect record of 8-0 this season and a 4-0 record in conference receiving first team accolades in his first season sporting a Titan uniform. Shamhart totaled 41 strikeouts in his six CCIW appearances in 33.2 innings. The sophomore started in five of the six games and posted an earned run average of 2.41. Shamhart was the first and last Titan to receive CCIW Pitcher of the Week, earning the award three times this season (March 4, March 18, and April 29). 

Gadomski was the second Titan to make the All-CCIW First Team.  In 77 at bats, the Schaumburg, Ill. native torched CCIW pitching as he assembled a .416 batting average. The junior scored 18 runs and finished with 42 total bases, while hammering in 13 RBI. Gadomski recorded five two-baggers, one triple, and one home run. With a .972 fielding percentage, he managed 23 putouts and 47 assists. Gadomski garnered CCIW Hitter of the Week, April 1, which was the first of his career. 

Perona was named to an All-CCIW team for the second time in his career. He started all 20 league games for the Green and White. Perona ended the league season with 69 at bats for a .319 batting average. Perona recorded seven RBI, seven stolen bases, one triple, and one home run. Perona took a CCIW Hitter of the Week award April 15, which was the first award for him of the season. 

Woltman earned Second Team All-CCIW honors as IWU's starting catcher. Woltman garnered a .386 batting average with 44 at bats and 17 hits. Sitting behind the plate, the Wheaton, Ill. native totaled 106 putouts and 47 assists with a fielding percentage of .983. Woltman's breakout game was at Carthage when the Titans took a 13-3 win and he went 3-for-4 and ran in two. 

Ferraro, who enjoyed a strong second half of the season, started in 18 conference contests and appeared in 20 as he snagged a spot on the All-CCIW Second Team. The freshman recorded seven multi-hit games and exploded for three-hit contests against Millikin University (April 27) and Wheaton College (April 9). The Oak Park, Ill. native led IWU in batting average as he laced 25 hits in 53 at-bats. In league action, Ferraro scored six runs, recorded 10 RBI, and claimed four walks. 

Davidsmeier, a proven workhorse on the mound, claimed Second Team All-CCIW. The Virginia, Ill. native tossed 26.2 innings of work and totaled 26 strikeouts. In the sophomore's four league starts, he went 4-1 and kept his opponents' batting average to .167, which is a team-best. 

The Titans own the third-seed in this week's CCIW Tournament, May 8-11. IWU is set to take on the sixth-seed, Carthage College, tomorrow, May 8, at 2 p.m. North Park University will serve as the host, and all games are scheduled to be played at Holmgren Athletic Stadium in Chicago, Ill.
