Four Titans Named to CSC Academic All-District Tennis Teams

Christian represents women’s team, while Cross, Hammond, and Vigneri on men’s side

The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's tennis teams saw a combined four Titans earn College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors Tuesday, May 14. Sophomore Kate Christian (Washington, Ill.-Washington Community) represented the women's team, while sophomores Griffin Hammond (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) and Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) and junior Zeke Cross (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield) earned the honor on the men's side. 
  
Christian, a sociology major, claims her first CSC Academic All-District honor after her sophomore campaign for the Green and White. She appeared in all 18 matches for the Titans, posting an 8-10 overall record in singles play that included a 5-7 mark at No. 2 singles and a 3-3 record at the No. 3 spot. In doubles action, Christian finished with an overall record of 7-11 at No. 2 doubles, primarily playing alongside Raji More. The Washington, Ill. native was IWU's CCIW RESPECT award honoree for the second straight season. 
  
Double majoring in accounting and mathematics, Cross collects his second straight CSC Academic All-District honor. The junior appeared in all 19 dual matches and one tournament during the 2023-24 campaign, finishing with an overall record of 7-9 in singles play and 6-12 in doubles action. In individual competition, Cross saw success at No. 5 singles, recording a 6-5 record. Playing all doubles competitions in the No. 2 spot, Cross and Vigneri teamed up to post a 5-12 record. 
  
Earning his first  CSC Academic All-District, Hammond played in 18 matches and one tournament during the season. Majoring in environmental studies, Hammond finished with an overall record of 7-10 in singles play and 9-11 in doubles action. Primarily in the No. 6 singles slot, Hammond finished with a 5-5 record for the Green and White. Hammond primarily partnered up with freshman Thad Dillow in doubles play, as the duo finished with an 8-11 overall record. 
  
A health promotion and fitness management major, Vigneri collects his first academic all-district honor after appearing in all 19 dual matches and two tournaments for the Titans. The sophomore finished with a record of 6-17 in singles play. Playing primarily in the No. 2 singles spot in dual matches, Vigneri posted a record of 5-10 at No. 2 singles and 1-2 in the top spot. He also posted a 6-17 overall record in doubles play, with the majority of the action coming in the No. 2 spot alongside Cross. 
  
All four recipients return for Illinois Wesleyan in the 2024-25 season.
