Women’s Lacrosse Succumbs to Chicago

Titans dip to 5-6 on the season

CHICAGO - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team opened College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action with a 26-2 loss to defending champion University of Chicago Saturday, April 6. With the loss IWU dips to 5-6 overall (0-1 CCIW), while Chicago improves to 5-4 (1-0 CCIW).

The Titans saw two goals from sophomore Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg), while senior Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) added an assist. 

In goal, junior Bri Kiser (Crown Point, Ind.-Crown Point) registered nine saves in 60 minutes between the iron.

Hanson led the Green and White with two ground balls, while six other Titans each scooped up one. Six IWU players caused one turnover apiece.

As a team, Illinois Wesleyan saw an advantage in saves (9-3), but held disadvantages in shots (41-6), ground balls (15-8), caused turnovers (14-9), and committed 17 turnovers to the Maroons' nine. Chicago was successful on 13 of 14 clears, while IWU went four of nine.

Illinois Wesleyan returns home to host Carthage College for a midweek CCIW clash Wednesday, April 10. Action is set to begin at 6 p.m. inside Tucci Stadium.
