LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team faded in a 21-8 loss at Lake Forest College Wednesday evening, April 3. IWU's record is even at 5-5 overall following the setback, while LFC ups its mark to 9-2 with the win.
After more than three minutes without a goal, Lake Forest found the back of the net to give the Foresters an early edge. Senior Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) leveled the score after the Titans won the ensuing draw as sophomore 
Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) notched the assist. 
LFC rattled off seven of the next nine goals in the game to jump out to an 8-3 lead into the second quarter.
The Foresters' run continued as the home team put up six goals over the first seven minutes of the second period to take control, 14-3.
A free position goal by Maldonado and a score by junior Avery Setzler (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) halted the run, but Lake Forest scored twice more before the break to grab an 18-5 lead at halftime.
After a four-goal third quarter by LFC, sophomore Sadie Newton (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) net her third goal of the day in the fourth period. 
IWU ultimately outscored Lake Forest, 3-1, over the final 15 minutes but fell, 21-8. 
Junior Bri Kiser (Crown Point, Ind.-Crown Point) finished with seven saves in net, while 
Anelise DiGiovanni (Lockport, Ill.-Lockport Township) paced the team with three caused turnovers. Junior 
Grace Spader (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community), sophomore 
Devon Hanson (Waukesha, Wis.-Waukesha West), and Setzler added two caused turnovers each.
Maldonado led the scoring with five points, doing so on three goals and two assists. Newton also finished with a hat trick to tie for the team-lead in goals. Setzler added two points on a goal and an assist, while tying DiGiovanni for the team lead with three groundballs. Setzler was the Titan leader with seven draw controls, with Hanson adding three.
Illinois Wesleyan closes out its roadtrip Saturday, April 6, as the Green and White turns its attention to the University of Chicago. Game time of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Amos Alonzo Stagg Field.
