Women’s Lacrosse Hosts Augie for Senior Day Contest

Titans will honor Maldonado & Trousdale prior to start

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Playing its final game of the regular season slate, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team hosts Augustana College for a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin bout Saturday, April 27, at 12 p.m. inside Tucci Stadium. The Titans (8-7, 3-2 CCIW) will honor seniors Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) and Hannah Trousdale (Mt. Prospect, Ill.-Hoffman Estates) prior to the start of the game. 

The Green and White enter the contest off a 15-7 victory at North Central College Wednesday, April 24. Maldonado led the offense with 11 points composed of four goals and seven assists. Sophomore Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) and junior Mia Fiandaca (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North) also posted four goals apiece to finish with four points. In goal for the Green and White, junior Lizzie Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Saint Viator) got the win in between the iron, finishing with nine saves in 60 minutes of action to notch her third victory of the season. 

Maldonado leads the nation in assists with 67 on the season, and is second with an average of 4.47 assists per game. She also ranks fourth nationally in points (108) and points per game (7.20). Fountain is second on the team in points with 41, while Fiandaca is third with 38. 

At the draw, sophomore Devon Hanson (Waukesha, Wis.-Waukesha West) leads the Titans with 73. Sophomore Sadie Newton (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) follows with 44, while Fiandaca's 35 rank third on the squad. Hanson also holds a team-high in ground balls with 48. Junior Avery Setzler (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) is second with 38, and sophomore Sarah Riepe (Aurora, Ill.-St. Francis) closely follows with 37. 

As a team, IWU ranks second nationally in caused turnovers per game, averaging 16.73 per contest. Leading the charge is Hanson with 46, who's 3.07 caused turnover per game average is 13th in the country. Riepe and Fiandaca are tied for second with 30 on the season. 

In goal for the Green and White, junior Bri Kiser (Crown Point, Ind.-Crown Point) has made a team-high 203 saves in 660 minutes of action. Rymarcsuk, who holds a 3-0 record, has stopped 24 shots on a .522 save percentage in 180 minutes between the iron. 

Illinois Wesleyan will face Augie for the 11th time in program history, with IWU holding a 6-4 advantage in the series. Most recently, the Titans claimed a 22-5 road victory April 8, 2023. Maldonado led the team with six points on five goals and one assist, while Fiandaca and Hanson added four and two goals, respectively. Hanson posted nine draw controls in the win, and Rymarczuk earned the victory in goal with seven saves in 30 minutes of action. Augie enters the contest off a 26-2 setback at University of Chicago Saturday, April 20, dropping to 2-10 overall, and 1-4 in league play
