Women’s Lacrosse Heads West for Spring Break Trip

Titans travel to Oregon for three games in five days

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team will head west to Oregon for its spring break trip, playing three games over the span of five days. The Titans (1-2) open the trip at Lewis & Clark College Sunday, March 10, at 1 p.m. PT, before traveling to Linfield University Tuesday, March 12 for a 6 p.m. PT contest. Illinois Wesleyan will return to Lewis & Clark's campus for a neutral site game against University of Puget Sound to conclude its trip Thursday, March 14, at 7 p.m. PT.

Illinois Wesleyan enters the west coast trip off a loss to DePauw University Wednesday, March 6. Senior Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) led the Titans with three goals and an assist for four points. Junior Grace Spader (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) scooped up a career-best five ground balls, while junior Bri Kiser (Crown Point, Ind.Crown Point) posted a career-high 15 saves in goal. 

Through three games, Maldonado leads the team with 20 points and 11 assists, while her and sophomore Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) each have a team-high nine goals. Junior Mia Fiandaca (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North) and sophomore Devon Hanson (Waukesha, Wis.-Waukesha West) are tied for third on the team with eight points apiece. Fiandaca's 18 draw controls are a team-best, while Hanson follows with 12.

Defensively, Fiandaca and Hanson are first and second with 12 and 10 caused turnovers, respectively. Sophomore Sarah Riepe (Aurora, Ill.-St. Francis) is third on the team with six. Kiser leads the Green and White with 13 ground balls, while Hanson is second with 10, followed by Riepe's nine. 

Kiser has logged all 180:00 minutes in goal for IWU, having made 35 saves on a .422 save percentage. 

The Titans will face Lewis & Clark (0-5), Linfield (1-0), and Puget Sound (2-0) for the first time in program history. Lewis & Clark is amid its first year of women's lacrosse, and most recently fell to Whitman College, 19-10, Sunday, March 3. The Pioneers host University of Mount Union Friday, March 8, before turning their attention to the Titans. Linfield opened its season with a 24-3 victory over Eastern Oregon University Friday, Feb. 23. The Wildcats face Whitman Friday, March 8, and Whitworth University Saturday, March 9, before welcoming Illinois Wesleyan to McMinneville, Ore. Puget Sound notched its most recent win over Pacific University, 13-2, Wednesday, March 6. The Loggers host Willamette Saturday, March 9, before heading to Corban University (Ore.) Monday, March 11, prior to meeting the Titans for the first time.
