Women’s Lacrosse Downed by DePauw

Kiser makes career-high 15 saves in setback

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team could not keep pace with DePauw University in a non-conference bout Wednesday night, March 6, inside Tucci Stadium. Junior Bri Kiser (Crown Point, Ind.-Crown Point) made a career-high 15 saves, but DePauw (2-0) used a 42-13 advantage in shots to take down the Titans (1-2).

Junior Grace Spader (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) led the Titans with a career-best five ground balls, while junior Avery Setzler (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) recorded a team-high five draw controls. Sophomores Devon Hanson (Waukesha, Wis.-Waukesha West) and junior Mallory Mills (Schaumburg, Ill.-James B. Conant) registered three caused turnovers apiece, with sophomore Sarah Riepe (Aurora, Ill.-St. Francis) and Spader adding two each.

Senior Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) played a role in four of IWU's goals, scoring three and assisting on another. Sophomore Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) tallied the final goal of the game, capitalizing on a free position before the buzzer.

DePauw scored the game's first two goals before IWU's seniors connected for the Titans' first goal of the night. Maldonado hit a cutting Hannah Trousdale (Mt. Prospect, Ill.-Hoffman Estates) in front of the goal to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.

The Tigers tallied six unanswered goals to end the period and drive ahead, 8-1.

Illinois Wesleyan won the opening draw control of the second quarter, which led to another Titan score. Maldonado set a screen for Hanson, who promptly fed her on a roll to make it 8-2.

DePauw once again answered with a run, this time pushing its lead to double-digits, 12-2.

The Green and White scored two more on a goal from Maldonado and Fountain's late strike, but ultimately fell, 21-5.

Illinois Wesleyan looks to bounce back Sunday, March 10, as the Titans begin their spring break trip against Lewis & Clark. Game time is set for 1 p.m. PT.
