Men’s Tennis Drops Heartbreaker to Ohio Wesleyan

Titans return to action Saturday, March 30, opening CCIW play against Elmhurst

ORLANDO, Fla. - In its last game of its spring break trip, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team dropped a, 5-4, heartbreaker to Ohio Wesleyan University Thursday, March 14. With the loss, the Titans drop to 7-4, while OWU improves to 6-3.

Opening the match in doubles action, sophomore Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) and senior Ryan McCoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Rolling Meadows) secured the win at No. 1 with an 8-5 victory.

In singles action, the Titans saw three wins, coming at No. 2, 3, and 6, but it was not enough, as IWU dropped two matches in super tiebreakers. McCoy picked up the win at No. 2 singles, as a super tiebreaker fell in his advantage. Dropping his first set, 6-4, McCoy battled back to win his second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), and took the third set, 10-8 to pick up the win. Freshman Thad Dillow (Effingham, Ill.-Effingham) secured the win at No. 3 singles, winning both sets, 6-4. Senior Jordan Sibley-Diggs (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park & River Forest) stepped up at No. 6 individuals, taking his sets with scores of 6-4, 6-1.

Illinois Wesleyan will enjoy two weeks off before returning to action Saturday, March 30. The Titans will host Elmhurst University in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener.
