Carthage Classic Comes to an End for Swim and Dive Titans are back in action Jan. 11

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swim and dive team concluded its three-day meet at the Carthage Classic in Kenosha, Wis. Saturday, Dec. 7. The Green and White saw ten individuals make it to the finals on day three. 

The Titans started the finals off in the 200-yard medley relay to see a sixth and 12th-place finish. IWU's women's relay of freshman Isabella Cano (River Grove, Ill.-East Leyden), sophomore Sam Borre (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant), junior Kayleigh Kuschewski (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia), and senior Emily Marks (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove) teamed up to claim sixth place clocking in with a 1:57.09, shaving 0.82 off of their entry time. The men saw a 12th place finish with freshmen Tate Thomas (Joliet, Ill.-Joliet West), Ben Huk (Des Plaines, Ill.-Maine West), Jacob Nacional (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Bolingbrook), and senior Colin McKibben (Green Oaks, Ill.-Libertyville). The quartet saw a time of 1:47.03

Senior Carter Dilger (Sellersburg, Ind.-Jeffersonville) saw a top five performance in the men's 200-yard butterfly taking fifth overall with a time of 2:02.75. Nacional placed eleventh in the same event, clocking a time of 2:05.19. Junior Jay Jenkins (Aurora, Ill.-West Aurora) nabbed eleventh place as well in the 100-yard back timing in with a 55.80, dropping 1.53 seconds off his previous time. 

A trio of Titans made it to the finals in the women's 200-yard freestyle in junior Natalie Porter (Danville, Ill.-Danville), senior Alexa Starkey (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community West), and freshman Julia Jozwiak (McHenry, Ill.-Wauconda). Porter placed eleventh (2:03.76), Starkey took 15th (2:07.09) while Jozwiak claimed 17th (2:07.41). Borre took 13th in the 100-yard back clocking a 1:04.04, shaving almost a whole second off her previous time. 

The three-day-event ended with the men's and the women's 400-yard freestyle relay. Marks, Jozwiak, Starkey, and Cano competed for the women and placed 10th with a 3:54.73 time. The men placed eleventh with Dilger, Thomas, McKibben, and Jenkins timing in at 3:24.32, shaving seven seconds off their entry time. 

The Titans will take a break for the Holidays and will return to competition against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Jan. 11. Between then, IWU will embark on a road trip down to Fort Myers, Fla. during break to practice in the warm weather. The meet will start at 1 p.m. ET in Rose-Hulman Natatorium.
