Day Two of Carthage Classic Concludes

Titans saw 11 PRs on day two

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swim and dive team completed day two of three in the Carthage Classic Friday, Dec. 6. Friday's meet consisted of preliminary rounds in the morning session before the evening session finals. The top-18 from preliminaries moved on to compete in the finals.

Starting off the finals was the men's and women's 400-yard medley relay. On the women's side, freshmen Isabella Cano (River Grove, Ill.-East Leyden), and Julia Jozwiak (McHenry, Ill.-Wauconda), teamed up with sophomore Sam Borre (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant), and junior Kayleigh Kuschewski (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia) to take ninth place clocking in a time of 4:20.70. The men placed tenth in the relay with freshmen Tate Thomas (Joliet, Ill.-Joliet West) and Jacob Nacional (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Bolingbrook), junior Jay Jenkins (Aurora, Ill.-West Aurora) and senior Carter Dilger (Sellersburg, Ind.-Jeffersonville) clocking in a 3:46.22.

Kuschewski saw a seventh and 12th-place finish in the finals of the 200-yard breaststroke (2:41.15) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.86), respectively. Borre clocked in a 2:19.89 in the 200-yard backstroke to register 15th place. Junior Natalie Porter (Danville, Ill.-Danville) timed in a 5:25.64 time in the 500-yard freestyle nabbing seventh place overall, as she and Kuschewski turned in the highest finishes of the day for the Green and White.

For the men, Jenkins and freshman Ben Huk (Des Plaines, Ill.-Maine West) both competed in the 200-yard breaststroke finishing 16th and 17th-place clocking in with times of 2:25.68 and 2:31.08, respectively. Thomas also saw a 17th-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:10.84. Dilger claimed the highest placing on the men's side, finishing 14th in the 500-yard freestyle clocking a 5:06.64.

The last two events of day two were the men's and women's 200-yard freestyle relay. The women's squad of senior Emily Marks (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove), Kuschewski, Jozwiak, and Cano clocked a 1:47.26 with an 11th place finish. Jenkins swam with Dilger, senior Colin McKibben (Green Oaks, Ill.-Libertyville), and Nacional finishing 14th (1:33.55).

Eleven Titan swimmers saw a personal record during day two with some hitting PR's in multiple events, including: Cano, Kuschewski, Marks, Porter, sophomore Claire Paule (Godfrey, Ill.-Alton), and freshman Isadora Tolpin (Highland Park, Ill.-Highland Park) on the women's side and Thomas, McKibben, Huk, Dilger, and Jenkins on the men's side.

The third and final day of the Carthage Classic will commence at 9 a.m. with the preliminary rounds Saturday Dec. 7, with finals starting at 5 p.m. The live stream can be found on the men's and women's swimming and diving schedule pages of iwusports.com. Results will be posted to each schedule at the meet's conclusion.
