Swim and Dive Finishes Day One of Carthage Classic Day two starts at 9 a.m. tomorrow

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swim and dive teams took a three-hour road trip up to Kenosha, Wis. to compete in the Carthage Classic Thursday, Dec. 5. The Titans competed in three events on day one of the three-day meet.

On the women's side, junior Natalie Porter (Danville, Ill.-Danville) saw a runner-up finish in the 1650-yard freestyle. The Danville, Ill. native saw a time of 18:22.90, slicing 22.32 seconds off her previous time this season, a little over 30 seconds shy of her career best (17:46.14). Senior Alexa Starkey (Normal Ill.-Normal Community West) also competed in the 1650-yard freestyle and took 11th place with a time of 19:07.08. Juniors Claire Paule (Godfrey, Ill.-Alton) and Julianna Boyle (Carol Stream, Ill.-Glenbard North) took 14th (19:13.66) and 17th place (19:30.34), respectively.

Freshman Julia Jozwiak (McHenry, Ill.-Wauconda), sophomore Sam Borre (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant), junior Kayleigh Kuschewski (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia), and senior Emily Marks (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove) teamed up to compete in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The Titans placed 10th overall, timing in at 8:44.24.

On the men's side, the Titans saw freshmen Jacob Nacional (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Bolingbrook) and Tate Thomas (Joliet, Ill.-Joliet West) swim with junior Jay Jenkins (Aurora, Ill.-West Aurora), and senior Carter Dilger (Sellersburg, Ind.-Jeffersonville) in the 800-yard freestyle relay clocking in a time of 7:37.95, good for a ninth-place finish.

IWU will continue competing in the Carthage Classic tomorrow in Kenosha, Wis. Preliminaries start at 9 a.m. with finals beginning at 5 p.m. The live stream can be found on iwusports.com on the swim and dive schedule page. Results will be posted after the duration of the meet.
