Smazil Named to United Soccer Coaches All-Region Teams

Only the ninth Titan in program history to earn the honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team saw junior Jerry Smazil (Downers Grove, Ill.-Downers Grove South) garner United Soccer Coaches All-Region accolades as he was named to the fourth team. Smazil is the ninth Titan to receive this honor in program laurels.

The Downers Grove, Ill. native was an integral part of the team this season as one of only two Titans to start in all 18 games. Smazil directed the middle of the pitch, playing a crucial role on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, helping the Green and White to a 9-5-4 season record and 3-4-1 showing in conference play. A three-year letterwinner for the Titans, Smazil recorded one assist on the year against Carthage, Oct. 5, and led IWU to its seventh College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament appearance, as the Titans made it to the semifinal round.

In addition to his athletic excellence, Smazil recently earned his second-straight College Sports Communicators Academic All-District award.
