Women’s Volleyball Lands Four on CSC Academic All-District Team

Boyd, Erdman, Feeney, and Tellor earn honor

GREENWOOD, Ind. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team landed four Titans on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, announced by the organization Tuesday, Dec. 17. Junior Kannyn Boyd (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.-Mt. Pleasant) and senior Abby Erdman (Aurora, Ill.-Metea Valley) earn the award for the second time in their careers, while sophomore Sophia Feeney (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and junior Hannah Tellor (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) receive the nod for the first time.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have participated in 90 percent or started 66 percent of the matches during the season and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.50. 

Boyd, an elementary education major with a 4.0 GPA, collects the award after earning CSC Academic All-District honors at Division II Newberry College a season ago. A Second Team All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin honoree, Boyd led the Titans in digs with 550, an average of five per set, as well as totaling 120 assists, 22 aces, and three kills in a total of 110 sets over the season. After helping Illinois Wesleyan reach the NCAA Tournament Regional Championship for the second time in program history, Boyd was named to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team. In the three regional matches, Boyd accrued 57 digs in nine sets, an average of 6.33 per set, along with seven assists, three aces, and a kill.

A business major boasting a 3.71 GPA, Erdman finishes her career donning the Green and White by picking up her second Academic All-District honor after earning it in 2022. The Aurora, Ill., native finished second on the team in assists with 428, an average of 4.37 per set. Appearing in 98 sets, Erdman also totaled 167 digs, 30 kills, and eight aces. She collected her 1000th career assist against Wheaton College Wednesday, Sept. 18, and finished her career ranked 13th all-time in assists (1318) and assists per set (4.67). 

Feeney picks up her first academic award, as the sophomore holds a 3.71 GPA as a marketing major. The Titans' primary setter in a 6-2 rotation for the majority of the season, Feeney totaled 583 assists, averaging 5.30 helpers per set en route to securing Second Team All-CCIW honors. Appearing in 110 sets, the Bloomington, Ill., native finished third on the team with 37 aces, and her 201 digs ranked fourth, as well as adding three kills to her season stat line.

Tellor collects her first academic award at IWU, as the junior transferred in from Illinois Central College prior to the season where she was a 2022 NJCAA First Team All-Academic honoree. The kinesiology and allied health major rocks a 3.79 GPA, helping her earn her first Academic All-District honor. Tellor was named First Team All-CCIW and played a key role for the Titans this season, as she finished second in kills (273) and blocks (91). Starting in all 34 matches for the Green and White this season, Tellor also notched 25 aces, 20 assists, and 107 digs. 

The CSC Academic All-America teams will be announced Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 12 p.m. ET.
