Swim and Dive Defeated by the Vikings

Porter earns crown in 1000-yard freestyle

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swim and dive team met up with College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Augustana College Saturday, Nov. 9. The Vikings took a win on both the men's and the women's side, 181-27 and 165-52, respectively.

For the women, sophomore Samantha Borre (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) teamed up with junior Kayleigh Kuschewski (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia), and freshmen Isabella Cano (River Grove, Ill.-East Leyden) and Julia Jozwiak (McHenry, Ill.-Wauconda) in the 200-yard medley relay. The group placed second with a time of 2:00.70, shaving 2.79 seconds off their last time.

Junior Natalie Porter (Danville, Ill.-Danville) took the crown in the 1000-yard freestyle, clocking in with an 11:10.52. Kuschewski saw a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.02), and the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.50), while Cano secured second place in the 100-yard butterfly clocking in with a 1:03.74.

On the men's side, the Titans saw fifth-year Carter Dilger (Sellersburg, Ind.-Jeffersonville), and freshmen Tate Thomas (Joliet, Ill.-Joliet West), Ben Huk (Des Plaines, Ill.-Maine West), and Jacob Nacional (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Bolingbrook) competed in the 200-yard medley (1:46.89) taking third place overall.

Dilger was able to nab second place in the 100-yard butterfly timing in with a 53.91.

IWU's divers secured top-two finishes in the 1 meter diving event. Female freshman diver Sarah Worsley (Shorewood, Ill.-Joliet West) took second place with 147.45 adding 41.65 points to her score from the last meet. Freshman David Ren (Chicago, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) took first place in the 1 meter on the men's side racking in 165.50 points.

The Titans are back at home Saturday, Nov. 23 for the IWU Invite. The meet starts at 1 p.m. in Fort Natatorium.
