Swim and Dive Falls to DePauw in Dual

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swim and dive team competed against DePauw University Friday, Nov. 8. Both the IWU men's and women's teams took their second losses of the season as the men trailed 159-41 and the women fell 142-65. 

On the women's side, senior Alexa Starkey (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community West) and junior Natalie Porter (Danville, Ill.-Danville) both saw a crown during the duration of the meet. Starkey took first in the 1000-yard freestyle, timing in with an 11:38.07, while Porter clocked a 5:32.98 in the 500-yard freestyle. Senior Emily Marks (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove) turned in a second place finish in the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:31.12. 

IWU women took third in the 400-yard medley relay (4:20.39) as Samantha Borre (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) started the Titans off, followed by junior Kayleigh Kuschewski (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia), and freshmen Isabella Cano (River Grove, Ill.-East Leyden), and Julia Jozwiak (McHenry, Ill.-Wauconda).

On the men's side, IWU took fourth in the 400-yard medley relay with fifth-year Carter Dilger (Sellersburg, Ind.-Jeffersonville) and freshmen Tate Thomas (Joliet, Ill.-Joliet West), Ben Huk (Des Plaines, Ill.-Maine West), and Jacob Nacional (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Bolingbrook) finishing in a time of 3:55.02. 

Dilger took second in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard butterfly, clocking in with times of 1:51.47 and 2:03.98, respectively. Nacional also saw a pair of runner/up finishes in the 200-yard IM (2:09.08) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.00). Thomas nabbed second place in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:08.94. 

Both Titan divers claimed first place in the one meter diving competition. Freshman Sarah Worsley (Shorewood, Ill.-Joliet West) for the women scored 105.80 points and freshman David Ren (Chicago, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) snatched a 122.00. 

The Titans will be back in Fort Natatorium tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 9 in another dual against College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Augustana College. First event is set for 1 p.m. Final results will be posted on the men's and women's swim and dive schedules of iwusports.com after the meet's conclusion.
