Swim and Dive Places Second in IWU Invite

Carthage Classic up next for the Titans

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After a short two week break, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swim and dive teams competed in the annual IWU Invite Saturday, Nov. 23. The Titans competed against Washington University in St. Louis for the second straight year with the Bears winning on both the men's and women's sides. 

For the women, freshman diver Sarah Worsley (Shorewood, Ill.-Joliet West) competed against two WashU divers to place third overall. Worsley competed in the 1-meter dive and finished with 252.20 points on 11 total dives. 

Senior Alexa Starkey (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community West) teamed up with sophomore Sam Borre (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) and freshmen Caroline Stenger (Westlake, Ohio-Westlake) and Isabella Cano (River Grove, Ill.-East Leyden) in the 200-yard medley relay. The group took sixth place with a time of 2:00.85. 

Cano saw a fourth place finish in the women's 50-yard freestyle timing in with a quick 26.24 time. Junior Natalie Porter (Danville, Ill.-Danville) nabbed second place in the women's 500-yard freestyle clocking a 5:22.99 time, dropping 9.99 seconds from her previous time.                                                

On the men's side, the Titans saw senior Carter Dilger (Sallersburg, Ind.-Jeffersonville), junior Jay Jenkins (Aurora, Ill.-West Aurora), and freshmen Jacob Nacional (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Bolingbrook) and Ben Huk (Des Plaines, Ill.-Maine West) team up to compete in the 200-yard medley relay. Taking fifth, the Titans' saw a time of 1:45.88 shaving off 0.23 seconds from their previous best time.

Dilger had the highest finish by a Titan on the men's side as the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke clocking in with a time of 55.72.

The Titans are back on the road for the Carthage Classic Thursday-Saturday Dec. 5-7. The Green and White will travel to Kenosha, Wis. to compete in the Koenitzer Aquatic Center.
