Cross Country Readies for DIII Pre-Nationals Race

LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course also site of 2024 National Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's cross country teams will get a glimpse of the 2024 national championship course as the Titans head to Terre Haute, Ind. for DIII Pre-Nationals, Friday, Oct. 4, hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. 

Four collegiate races will be held at LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course on Friday with a pair of high school races separating the open and championship collegiate races. IWU women will race the 9 p.m. ET championship six-kilometer with the men following in the 9:45 p.m. ET 8k. The DIII Pre-Nationals meet will also run open women's 6k and men's 8k races at 6:30 p.m. ET and 7:15 p.m. ET with two high school 5k races at 8 p.m. ET and 8:30 p.m. ET.

In order to be eligible for the collegiate championship races, teams with a maximum of 10 student-athletes must be in the top 46 in the Pre-Nationals Team Rankings. The Titan women landed at the 28th spot while the men came in at No. 39. Links to rankings can be found here for the women and here for the men.

Joining IWU in representing the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin at DIII Pre-Nationals is Augustana, Elmhurst, and North Park, all of whom will be racing both men's and women's teams. 

Teams across the country will be in Terre Haute this Friday including No. 2 ranked University of Chicago and No. 4 MIT on the women's side, and fourth-ranked UW-Whitewater and fifth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer. 

The Green and White women jumped back into the Midwest regional rankings released Tuesday, Oct. 1, coming in at No. 9. CCIW foe Wheaton kept its hold at seventh. Chicago owns the top spot in the region followed by Washington University in St. Louis and Central (Iowa) in second and third, respectively.

IWU is coming off a two-week break following a great showing at the Gil Dodds Invitational, Sept. 21. Senior Annalese Chudy (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) posted a top-five finish in the race, finishing fourth in 22:29.30. She was the highest finishing runner representing the CCIW, a feat that earned her the second CCIW Runner of the Week award of this season and in her career. Senior Nick Fisch (Woodridge, Ill.-Montini Catholic) also had a stellar race, clocking a 25:59.4 for 11th place overall and eighth among collegiate competitors. 

IWU women will kick off Friday evening in Terre Haute at 9 p.m. ET with the men's race following at 9:45 p.m. ET.
