Nine Titans Place First in Meet Against Rose-Hulman

Fudge highlights three individual wins

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swim and dive team found many first place titles during its clash with the Fightin' Engineers of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Jan. 13. The women took home a win against RHIT boasting a score of 183-77. The men swam a close race but were bested by the Fighin' Engineers 156-124. 

On the women's side, junior Hadley Fudge (Stanford, Ill.-University) placed first in three individual events. Fudge competed in the 50-yard, 100-yard, and 200-yard freestyle placing first in all three individual events she competed in. Sophomore Kayleigh Kuschewski (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia) competed in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard backstroke, and the 200-yard individual medley, placing first in each event. 5th year Lauren Feddersen (Champaign, Ill.-Centennial) had an impressive day as well, placing first in the 1000-yard freestyle and the 200-yard breaststroke. Freshman Sam Boore (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-Conant), senior Bella Calcagno (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont Township), and junior Emily Marks (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove) also put in the work to win first place in their events, pushing the women's team for their first official win of the season. 

For the men, senior Lane Wagner (Danville, Ill.-Danville) helped the men score with his two wins in the 1000-yard freestyle and the 200-yard butterfly. Wagner shaved off a second in the 200-yard butterfly since his last appearance in this event. Sophomore Sam Fogarty (Pontiac, Ill.-Pontiac Township) swam in the 50-yard, and the 100-yard freestyle placing first in both. Freshman Jack Hansen (Naperville, Ill.-Benet) also kept the Titans locked in with his two individual wins in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard butterfly. 

The Titans also placed first in each of the relays, racking in the points to help their teams out. Kuschewski and Calcagno were met with freshman Abi Zelikman (Oakwood Hills, Ill.-Prairie Ridge) and Olivia Kula (Pekin, Ill.-Pekin Community) to take first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:58.24. Along with that, an impressive race from Marks, Fudge, Feddersen, and Calcagno taking the crown in the 200-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:46.33

Hansen and Fogarty swam with junior Carter Dilger (Sellersburg, Ind.-Jeffersonville) and sophomore Jay Jenkins (Aurora, Ill.-West Aurora) in the 200-yard medley relay to finish with a time of 1:39.47, placing first. To end the night the Titans left on a high note with Jenkins, Fogarty, junior Alex Kula (Pekin, Ill.-Pekin Community), and freshman Rylan Nelson (Normal, Ill.-University) taking first in the 200-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:31.06. 

The Titans will stay home, as they host Illinois College and College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Millikin University Friday, Jan. 19, for the IWU Tri Meet. The competition will begin at 6 p.m. inside Fort Natatorium.
