Men’s Tennis Completes Day 1 at ITA Regionals

Titans fighting in Consolation Bracket

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team wrapped up the first day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Friday, Sept. 29. Sophomores Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) and Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) represented the Titans in the tournament.

The duo kickstarted the tournament with a win in doubles action, taking down Illinois Institute of Technology's Davis Housman and Alann Torress, 8-5. In the Round of 32, the pair fell 8-3 to third-seed Scott Yamanoto and Sergiu Celebidachi from Washington University in St. Louis. 

In singles action, Turnbull picked up a first round win over Peyton Specht from Ohio Northern University, using set scores of 6-2, 6-3 to do so. In the Round of 64, Turnbull faced fifth-seed Kael Shah from Denison University, falling in both sets, 6-1. 

Wheaton College's Jack Booker defeated Vigneri with set scores 6-2, 6-4, in the opening round. Vigneri will compete in the consolation bracket at 2:30 p.m. ET Saturday, Sept. 30.
