Women’s Volleyball Clipped by Carthage

Titans record dips to 4-7, 1-1 in conference

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball suffered a straight-set loss to Carthage College Wednesday night, Sept. 20, inside the Shirk Center. The Titans (4-7, 1-1 CCIW) fell to the Firebirds (6-6, 1-0 CCIW) by set scores 25-18, 26-24, and 25-21. 

Junior Carly Kuehl (St. Louis, Mo.-Parkway West) tallied 10 kills on a .192 clip, while sophomore Taylor French (Romeoville, Ill.-Plainfield East) added 13 kills on the night to go along with 10 digs. Junior Abby Erdman (Aurora, Ill.-Metea Valley) notched a team-best 19 assists. Senior Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred-Heart Griffin) led the team with 14 digs, while freshman Eleanor Palmer (Chicago, Ill.-DePaul College Prep) recorded three blocks. 

As a team, IWU was limited to a .102 attacking percentage with 36 kills on 118 attempts. Carthage finished hitting .273 with 43 kills over 110 attempts. The Firebirds held a 47-45 edge in digs, with two aces to IWU's one. 

Illinois Wesleyan hosts Illinois College and No. 2 Hope College for a triangular Saturday, Sept. 23. The Titans will play IC at 10:30 a.m. before battling the nationally-ranked Flying Dutch at 3:30 p.m.
