BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team readies for a battle with Washington University in St. Louis at home Wednesday, Sept. 20. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Neis Field.
The Titans, now 1-6-0 to start the year, are set to face possibly their toughest opponent of the young season as the sixth-ranked Bears visit Neis Field. The Bears are undefeated thus far, having shut out each of their five opponents this year.
Illinois Wesleyan is coming off five-straight away games that featured three nationally-ranked opponents according to the latest United Soccer Coaches poll. Most recently, the Titans suffered a 3-0 loss to the Sewanee Tigers Sunday, Sept. 17 in Sewanee, Tenn. Junior goalkeeper Kayla Borg (McHenry, Ill.-Cary Grove) notched double-digit saves in three of the five matches, recording a career-high 17 saves against Hope College.
WashU has been a historically tough challenge for the Titans since their first meeting in 2000. The Bears hold a 13-5-5 series advantage, with WashU winning the last four meetings. In their last contest on Oct. 25, 2022 the Titans narrowly missed the mark, dropping the match 3-2.
