Women’s Lacrosse to Face No. 17 Chicago in CCIW Tournament Semifinals

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - With the regular season in the rearview mirror, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team is set to travel to No. 17, and top-seeded University of Chicago for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament Semifinal. Action is set to begin at 6 p.m. on Amos Alonzo Stagg Field. 

The Titans (7-10, 3-3 CCIW) enter the contest as the fourth-seed after dropping the regular season finale at Carthage College Saturday, April 29. Junior Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) led the Green and White with five points on two goals and three assists. Senior Sarah Gleason (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) notched two goals and a helper, while sophomore Mia Fiandaca (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North) recorded a hat trick. 

Chicago (14-2, 5-0 CCIW) enters the match off a 24-1 victory over North Central College Saturday, April 29. This will mark the seventh meeting between the two programs, with each team having won three contests prior. IWU took the first three matchups, while the Maroons have been victorious in the last three, including the most recent battle, April 22, 2023. 

Maldonado leads IWU with 54 points, powered behind 31 goals and a team-high 23 assists. Fiandaca is the leading goal scorer with 44, and is second in points with 49 on the season. Gleason rounds out the top three offensive players with 28 goals and 19 assists for a total of 47 points. 

Defensively, senior Julia Raczykowski (Minooka, Ill.-Minooka Community) has caused a team-best 22 turnovers. Gleason sits second with 20, while senior Jennie Hubbard (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles East) has caused 17, 11 coming against conference opponents. Gleason leads Illinois Wesleyan with 44 ground balls, followed by Fiandaca's 33. Fiandaca and freshman Devon Hanson (Waukesha, Wis.-Waukesha West) have each been credited with a team-high 61 draw controls. 

Sophomore Lizzie Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Saint Viator) leads the Green and White between the posts. The sophomore holds a 7-6 record, and has logged 127 saves on a .492 save percentage in 573:58 minutes of action.
