Titans suffer first CCIW loss of season

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team fell to Carroll University, 18-7, Saturday, April 15, ending its perfect start to conference play. The loss drops the Titans to 6-8 overall, 2-1 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play, while Carroll moves to 11-2, 3-0 in conference action. 

The Titans were statistically overpowered in shots (34-18), saves (8-7), ground balls (19-12), while committing a costly 23 turnovers, compared to Carroll's 20. IWU held a slim 8-7 advantage in caused turnovers. 

Offensively, IWU was led by senior Sarah Gleason's (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) three goals, while freshman Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) notched two goals. Senior Kelly Carlson (Western Springs, Ill.-Lyons Township) recorded her first point of the season, as the defender scored her second career goal. 

On defense, Fountain and fellow freshman Anelise DiGiovanni (Lockport, Ill.-Lockport Township) led the Green and White with a pair of caused turnovers. Fountain, Fiandaca, junior Hannah Trousdale (Mt. Prospect, Ill.-Hoffman Estates), and senior Jennie Hubbard (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles East) each scooped up a pair of ground balls. 

Senior Rebecca Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Lake Zurich Senior) recorded the loss between the posts, finishing with four saves and 10 goals allowed. 

The Titans return to action Saturday, April 15, against No. 16 University of Chicago, at 4 p.m. inside Tucci Stadium. The match will serve as senior day for the Green and White.
